" Rita E. Jones was a lifelong resident of Pensacola whose background reveals a long and profound dedication to our community. She received degrees from Bethune-Cookman College, Northwestern, Harvard and Florida State Universities. She also studied at Pensacola Junior College, University of West Florida, Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, and The Case Institute of Technology. Ms. Jones retired from the Escambia County School System in 1994. She was a middle and high school mathematics teacher at Bellview Middle and Booker T. Washington Junior and Senior High Schools. She was the Registrar/Dean at Tate High School. Continuting on in the school district she became an Assistant Principal at Brentwood Middle and Pensascola High; and Principal at Wedgewood Middle. Her employment with the school district continued with her holding positions as a District Supervisor of Mathematics and Director of Comprehensive Planning. Many speak of volunteerism, but for Ms. Jones, this was just a way of life. There is not enough space in this short profile to list every charity and organization that she was actively involved. However, her passion was to always help people. Ms. Jones had several local business endeavors including work as a real estate broker and salesperson. She was also a bookeeper, tax preparer and a consultant in many areas. She served two terms on the Pensacola City Council representing the citizens of District 5."
